History & Origin of Homeopathy

Homeopathy history

Homeopathy is a branch of medicine discovered by the German physician Dr.Samuel Hahnemann (1755–1843) in 1796. The word ‘Homeopathy’ is derived from two Greek words Homoios meaning similar and Pathos meaning suffering. Homeopathy simply means treating diseases with remedies that are prescribed in minute doses, which are capable of producing symptoms similar to the disease when taken by healthy people.

Approach

Homeopathy is based on the natural law of healing- “Similia Similibus Curentur” which means “likes are cured by likes”. It was given a scientific basis by Dr. Samuel Hahnemann. It has been easing the suffering of humanity for over two centuries and has emerged as a time-tested therapy because the scientific principles propounded by Dr.Hahnemann are natural and well proven and continue to be followed with success even today.

HOLISTIC AND INDIVIDUALISTIC

” Strength of homeopathy lies in its evident effectiveness as it takes a holistic as well as individualistic approach towards a sick individual through promotion of inner balance at physical, mental, social, and spiritual levels.”

Thus in Homeopathy, we provide health and not only treating the symptoms of a disease. Holistic means the medicine selected is for the patient as a whole and not for individual diseased organ or parts; Individualistic from the viewpoint that each individual patient is considered different from others, although all are suffering from the same disease.

SAFE WITH NO HARM

Compared to the conventional medicine, the action of homeopathy is much safer and deep acting by arousing & enhancing the body’s curative powers. It is a rational, ethical and ecological choice in medicine and one which adheres to the Hippocratic imperative – “at least does no harm”.

SUCCESS AND RECOGNITION

Today, Homeopathy is recognized by the World Health Organization as the 2nd largest therapeutic system in the world which is practiced in more than 100 countries and there are more than 10 to 15 million users of homeopathy in India alone.
